ET partners with BR Office

In order to improve the visibility and to market Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, a partnership agreement with online news of Eydhafushi “Eydhafushi Times” (ET) was signed during November 2015.
 
Under the partnership agreement signed with them, ET will be responsible for disseminating of information through their online web portal throughout the atoll on activities undertaken working with Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office.
 
We at BR Office believe that this is a step in the right direction and will add to the existing work undertaken in this field, providing information and to establish a platform for future partnerships. 
 

BACF Monitoring Trip

A Team from the Baa Atoll Conservation Fund visited Baa Atoll from 19 January to 22 January 2015. The main purpose of the trip was to meet with grant recipients from Baa Atoll Conservation Fund and t monitor the progress of projects that had been awarded earlier for funding from BACF.

 

These monitoring trips would be conducted on a random basis and also according to the Workplan provided by the grant recipients during the project’s lifetime.

BACF Grant Letters Awarded

7 parties have been awarded Grant Letters by Baa Atoll Conservation Fund at a function held on 5th November at Baa Atoll Eydhafushi and the grantees were handed over the Award Letters by the Minister of Environment and Energy Mr.Thoriq Ibrahim. 
 
The following projects were handed over the Award letters:
 
1. Introduction and Training Program on Hydroponics.
Project by Dharavandhoo Development Cooperative Society (Livelihood, Education/Awareness).
2. Training Course on Outboard Engine Repair and Maintenance 
Project by FEYLI  of Eydhafushi (Livelihood).
3. Save Turtle Forum 
Project by: Kendhoo School (Education /Awareness, Conservation).
4. Kihaadhoo Goes Organic 
Project by: FAAM Foundation of Kihaadhoo  (Education/Awareness, Livelihood).
5. Erection of Monument  
Project by: Kudarikilu Council (Livelihood).
6. Eco friendly fertilizer production 
Project by Maalhos Women’s Development Committee (Livelihood).
7. Training Course on Lacquer Works 
Project by: Thulhaadhoo Council (Livelihood).
 
This function held at Eydhfushi were attended by representatives from Baa Atoll Council, Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees, NGOs and from the resort industry as well.
 

Grants from BACF to be awarded on 4the November

Grants from Baa Atoll Conservation Fund would be handed over at a ceremony to be held in Eydhafushi on 4th November 2014.
 
A total of 7 projects earlier had been approved as recipients from this cycle of grants by Baa Atoll Conservation Fund Board in its 4th meeting.
 
The Minister of Environment and Energy Mr.Thoriq Ibrahim will be attending the function together with his Deputy Mr.Abdulla Mohamed Didi.
 
Baa Atoll Council together with the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office is organizing the function with the assistance from Baa Atoll Eydhafushi Council.
 

4th BACF Board Meeting

The fourth meeting of the Baa Atoll Conservation Fund Board was held in Baa Atoll Eydhafushi today. A total of 8 participants from 7 organizations were present in this meeting. The participants of this meeting include 2 from Environment Protection Agency, 1 from Local Government Authority, 1 from Liveaboard Association of Maldives, 1 from Baa Atoll Council, 1 from Baa Atoll conservation Fund, 1 from Resort management and 1 from Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office.
 
The 2 main items discussed in the meeting include approval of BR Office and BACF budget and the endorsement of grantees for the first cycle from BACF.
 
It was agreed that the next meeting of BACF Board would be held in November.
