MOU's signed between Atoll Council and Island Councils
BR Office to undertake meetings with all Island Councils
Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office is in the process of holding a series of introductory meetings with the newly elected councils in Baa Atoll. The main aim if these meetings are to welcome the newly elected members and to provide information on Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
We look forward to working closely with the new councils and bring a positive impact to Baa Atoll community.
UNESCO grants biosphere status for Baa Atoll for the next 10 years

It has been announced by Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office that biosphere status has been extended for the atoll for the next 10 years at the 34th session of the International Co-ordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB ICC) Programme held from 13 -17 June 2022 in Paris , France after having reviewed the 10 year periodic review forms and the additional information submitted by Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve as per the recommendation of 28th International Advisory Committee for Biosphere Reserves held from 28 February to 4 March 2022.
The MAB ICC concluded that considering the complementary information submitted; Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve meets the criteria for being a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve under the criteria of the Statutory Framework of the WNBR.
UNESCO assigns its biospheres for a period of 10 years after which it holds the discretion to extend the commitment for another period depending of necessity for preservation of ecosystems.
The atoll was listed under UNESCO's biosphere reserves first on June 28, 2011.
